Got some awkward, non standard skirting boards in your home which need to be replaced? Perhaps you just have your eye on a very specific pattern and you can't find anywhere which stocks it. Quay Timber now offers bespoke skirting tailored to your specifications. Custom orders can be machined in a variety of materials, shapes and patterns including chamfered, torus and ogee.Custom machining costs vary depending on the size of the job and the materials needed.

Here is a quick example of how we have machined some beautiful American white oak into dressed ogee skirting boards.

A five head moulder (or five-cutter) was calibrated to cut and dress the original rough-sawn white oak boards. A block which matched the pattern of the sample provided was selected and then a few tests were ran using scraps to ensure the custom mould would match.

Then it was just a case of running the oak boards through the machine and stacking them up neatly for delivery!  Check out a video of this process and give us a like on facebook!

For a less expensive option, dressed redwood can be planed down using the five-cutter or circular saw as shown below.

Here some dressed redwood has been 'ripped’ through the circular saw to take the edge off one side, giving a chamfered, pencil round effect.
